Company Updates

It’s our first birthday!

August brings the completion of our first year in business and WOW what a year it’s been! From exhibitions to presentations and training, this year has been an awesome experience and opportunity to get ourselves out there. Just this year, we’ve travelled the country, taught over 50 students and demonstrated the software to over 200 teachers, designers and engineers from all sorts of sectors. We could go on highlighting all the incredible moments, but we‘d probably have our longest blog post to date. Hopefully, this little clip summarises things for you:

Launching the company has been no easy feat so thank you to those that we’ve met along the way and for the support you’ve provided us. We would not be able to do this without you.

New Year, new team. Meet Ed Howe.

As we surpass our 1st birthday, we’re super excited to expand our team and bring on our first ‘Virtual Reality Implementation Specialist’, Edward ‘Ed’ Howe to the team. Ed is an extremely talented individual who brings us the opportunity to provide you with even more services and learning opportunities! Having come through the Gravity Sketch Student Ambassador program Ed has the expertise to deliver outstanding sessions and provide industry-specific workflow implementation techniques.

With a degree in Product Design (BA) from Nottingham Trent University, Ed was in the same graduating class as Priten and Rob. It was during their collective time at university they met during Gravity Sketch’s Student Ambassador programme; collaborating and delivering Gravity Sketch teaching sessions to other design students. For Rob and Priten, this was the foundation that eventually became Mesh Training. Ed however, went on to be a freelance product designer based in Derby after completing his studies, before coming full circle and joining Mesh Training earlier this month. With his experience in Gravity Sketch and as an independent designer, Ed’s quickly built his skillset and found his feet within the company.

During his freelance work, Ed has gained experience in plastic manufacturing design and engineering design, now having many products in commercial production. Additionally, the supplementary skills of website design, social media content creation and graphic design helped him to generate new business for clients. Utilising his design workflow that focuses on human behaviour and psychology, everything that Ed generates is deeply use-centred. This focus originated from Ed’s final year dissertation, answering the question of how gender influences retail products and the relevancy of gender to the consumer. By understanding the subtle nuances of how different genders perceive and interact with design, Ed crafts products that are honest and emotionally engaging.

Outside of his design work, Ed is an avid climber, finding inspiration in the challenges and rewards of the sport. His love for climbing fuels his appreciation for precision, balance, and resilience; qualities that carry over into his design approach. Whether scaling a rock face or at work, Ed’s dedication to pushing his physical and creative limits to achieve excellence is evident in everything he produces. This passion for climbing not only keeps him grounded but also drives his creative process, bringing a unique perspective to his work in the design world.

After blowing the cobwebs off his headset and jumping into Gravity Sketch Ed was like a duck to water rediscovering the software. Within a few days he has secured his professional certification and continued to develop his skills for the upcoming expert certifications. While getting back into the software Ed has taken over our social media creation and editing, elevating our internal workflows and generating high-quality media, in and out of Gravity Sketch, to grow our audience as well as to drive exposure to our latest certification accelerator courses.
Ed, we’re super excited to have you join us and we know that you will be a great addition to the team.

Mesh goes international!

August has seen a continuation of our bespoke training sessions across a range of industries. This month, we’ve been working with industrial designer and incoming interior designer for Studio Marco Piva, Ali Yapan, based in Milan and Architech Jodie Sanders, based in Perth, Western Australia. We’ll be releasing a case study of both sessions shortly so keep your eyes peeled. Developing and delivering new syllabus’ is incredibly fulfilling as we utilise our expertise to make a real impact on someone’s design process and creative journey. Certification Accelerators update!

Looking forward to September, it sets out to be another busy month of training and showcases for Mesh Training and Gravity Sketch. For Mesh, we have more training scheduled for the Designer and Professional Accelerator courses. The Certified Designer Accelerator will equip you with a strong foundation of the fundamental Gravity Sketch tools, ensuring you leave feeling confident to continue developing your skills. The very next day we will be delivering the Professional Accelerator, 13:00 - 17:00. The Professional session will take things up a notch, covering advanced surface modelling and product presentation. It’s ideal for those who want to explore the more complex tools of Gravity Sketch and be on the right path to earn their Gravity Sketch Professional Certification.

Both sessions will take place from 1pm-5pm at the Dryden Enterprise Centre in Nottingham. For more information, please head over to our ‘book a session’ page.

Around 2024 - Behind the scenes

Around is back! The two day collaborative showcase of ongoing innovation amongst the Gravity Sketch community highlights those who’re pushing their craft to create better products through innovative workflows. From footwear, automotive, industrial and apparel design, the 73 speakers this year ensure there’s something available for all. 3D design workflows have become to be more complex and harder to integrate into the broader design industry. This event is a great opportunity to hear from the best in the game and learn something new!

Concept to Critique with Priten

This year, Gravity Sketch is also hosting a series of live, interactive workshops with designers from the community. We’re extremely proud to share that Priten, will be hosting his very own workshop, ‘Concept to Critique’ on 19th September, 8.15pm-10.15pm (BST). During the session, attendees will learn how to present a coffee machine concept for an immersive client review utilising mannequins, lighting, viewpoints and Screen Collab. Unfortunately, the session is fully booked however, we’ll be recording the session and reposting it here and on our social media pages.

The session, designed for beginners and early-stage users will guide you through primitive objects for rapid form development, smart move, product presentation and review techniques. Check out some of the progress pictures below!

That’s a wrap for this month! As the new academic term is just around the corner, we cannot wait to start to bring the world of VR and Gravity Sketch to even more students, teachers and future designers. As always, feel free to drop us a message if you have any questions or contact us via our social media pages below.
