Mesh Training conducts a Gravity Sketch crash course for staff and students at TH Köln

This month we have had the pleasure of training a selection of students and staff of TH Köln ahead of their upcoming project submission and design exhibition. Students were briefed to design a piece of furniture utilising AI and Gravity Sketch in an experimental design style, ready for 3D printing. With the deadline of the design exhibition in sight, we conducted three “crash course” style training sessions, covering the necessities of the software, ranging from basic tool sets to some Subdivision modelling. Additionally, sessions included advice for 3D printing, including modelling and exporting, one-on-one support for those who needed it and a wide selection of examples throughout. For many, this would be their first time using Gravity Sketch, so, as always, we broke down our sessions into manageable chunks, giving students time to experiment, ask questions, and take a moment to rest when needed.

Session outcomes

Here’s a highlight of what staff and students gained from our training:

  • Becoming comfortable using the basic tools within gravity sketch as well as some SubD

  • Iterate models in a collaborative workflow

  • Set-up and export their models for 3D printing with the correct settings and understand what each setting does

  • Share their work with others for critique and evaluation through the LandingPad webportal

Testimonials

The way of having one on one sessions with Priten and Rob helped a lot, so you would’t only have to explain it to them verbally, but can just show them. That was new to me and worked very well
— TH Köln, Student
The experience overall was very good! From organisational point of view it was uncomplicated and flexible to arrange the course dates. The students got an great on-boarding into the software and hands on experiencing to manage to work with the tool freely according to their needs in the end. The possibility for digital collaboration in VR was the biggest advantage.

We are pleased to share that the sessions were a resounding success, with praise coming from students and staff over the organisation, delivery and learning experience. Here’s what a student had to say: ‘The gravity sketch coaching was very well organized, cool and eyeopening. Thank you for the awesome experience, it was really helpful for our project.’. We would like to thank the team at TH Köln for this valuable opportunity and we wish the students the best of luck with their remaining project.

If you’re interested in bringing Gravity Sketch into your university course, feel free to get in-touch via the enquiry form on our homepage or dropping us a message through LinkedIn and we would be more than happy to help.
